TUCSON
GEM AND MINERAL SOCIETY
Our
Purpose is to encourage interest and study in geology, mineralogy, lapidary,
and allied earth sciences. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, Inc. is a non-profit
organization, founded in 1946 by a small group interested in the hobbies of
mineral collecting and lapidary. In 1988 we were awarded the 1st Carnegie Mineralogical
Award for creating a venue to promote, inform, and educate the mineral community.
ACTIVITIES
Society
activities include the general meetings, field trips, potlucks, the annual Tucson
Gem and Mineral Show, a Christmas party, educational classes, and Micromount
classes. All these activities are open to Society members who are in good standing
with the Society at the regular meeting immediately preceding the activity.
MEMBERSHIP
Society
dues cover the fiscal year July 1 through June 30 and include subscription to
our newsletter "Rock Talk", the membership roster, special Society
activities, and entry to the annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
COMMUNITY
OUTREACH
The
Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, Inc. supports the promotion of mineral knowledge
in our local Tucson community through scholarships, grants, and awards. We reach
out as well to the larger community of rock and gem lovers with support for
publications such as Rock and Mineral Magazine, the Geoliterary Society, Mineralogy
of Arizona, and the Mineralogical Record.
